ABOUT DJ
For nearly three decades, I helped people understand complicated things as a math teacher and school administrator. Becoming a general contractor taught me to look at properties differently. Real estate brought those experiences together.
Today, I use that combination to help people ask better questions, understand their options, and make real estate decisions with confidence.
My path to real estate wasn’t exactly a straight line. But looking back, the pieces fit together pretty well.
I spent nearly three decades in education as a math teacher and school administrator. That experience taught me something I still use every day: people don’t all process information the same way. If someone doesn’t understand something, explaining it louder or using more jargon isn’t the answer. You find another way to make it clear.
Then life gave me a construction education I hadn’t planned on.
After my home was damaged by fire, I became frustrated with the rebuilding process and wanted to understand more about what was happening. Eventually, I earned my general contractor’s license.
That experience changed the way I look at property. I learned to ask different questions, look beyond finishes, and think practically about condition, improvements and what might be possible.

Real estate decisions rarely come down to one question.
There are the numbers. The condition of the property. The market. Your timing. Your priorities. And sometimes, there’s a complication nobody expected.
My background has trained me to look at those pieces together. The educator in me wants you to understand what you’re deciding. The contractor in me asks questions about the property itself. And the Realtor in me considers how all of it fits into the strategy of buying, selling, or finding another way forward.
That doesn’t mean I’ll always have an immediate answer. It means I’ll keep asking questions, gathering information, and helping you understand the possibilities until we have a clearer picture.
You don’t need to know the right terminology. You don’t need to have everything figured out. And you definitely don’t need to pretend you understand something when you don’t.
I tend to ask a lot of questions, too. I want to understand what matters to you, what you’re concerned about, and how you like to process information before we start talking about solutions.
From there, my job is to make the complicated parts easier to understand. I’ll explain what I’m seeing, talk through the tradeoffs, and tell you when I think we need more information or another professional at the table.
Sometimes the answer is straightforward. Sometimes we have to work the problem.
Either way, you’ll understand your options before I ask you to make a decision.

When I’m not helping clients figure out their next move, you’ll usually find me at home on acreage, where life includes horses, dogs, an African grey parrot, and plenty of things that need figuring out.
I’m naturally curious, a little competitive, and not particularly good at accepting “there’s no way” as the final answer. I like understanding how things work, solving problems, and finding practical ways forward.
That’s true whether I’m looking at a property, working through a real estate challenge, or dealing with whatever the animals have decided to make interesting that day.
Apparently, figuring things out isn’t just how I work. It’s pretty much how I’m wired.
The different chapters of my career give me more than credentials. They shape the questions I ask, the details I notice, and the way I help clients understand a decision.
